International Day of Yoga 2024 - Highlights, Yoga Journey and More

Patanjali Japan Foundation (PJF) successfully held a series of events for the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) in 2024. In collaboration with the Embassy of India, Tokyo, Yamanakako Village, and Koto-Ku Sports Foundation, PJF organized a three-week-long event to celebrate the Yogic lifestyle at various places in Japan.


The events took place across four locations in Japan and included yoga sessions, meditation, and talks on the benefits of yoga. All the events began with a silent prayer in memory of Ms. Dhanashree Date sensei, the Director, Founding member, and Teacher's Head of the Department of PJF, who passed away recently.


PJF also launched a one-year yoga challenge to encourage people to make yoga a part of their daily routine.


International Day of Yoga 2024 at Toyota June 2

The first event of the 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2024 series was successfully conducted at Toyota city.  The Chief Guests Chairperson of TIA, Ms. Hanae Saeki san, and the Director, Mr. Koichiro Kuno graced the occasion.



After the ceremony, Nibedita sensei led the common yoga protocol, which is a program specially designed to be practiced on International Day of Yoga, passed by the United Nations. Ashutosh sensei then led the Pranayama Special Yoga session originally designed by Patanjali Japan Foundation to get rid of stress, anxiety, and depression. 




[Get-Together Event] International Yoga Festival 2024 in Fuji Yamanakako June 8th

At Mount Fuji, Yamanakako Village, a get together event was organized by PJF before the June 9th 2024 International Yoga Festival. The event was organized in wish to offer an opportunity for networking and socializing between those attending and organizing the big day.



To enliven the get-together, two activities were incorporated in the evening, including a quiz contest and a Vrikshasana (tree pose) contest. The quiz was led by our Director / Sales Marketing Leader Yumi san and included questions ranging in various difficulties about yoga as well as Yamanakako.



International Yoga Festival 2024 in Fuji Yamanakako June 9th

The first ever International Yoga Festival in Mount Fuji Yamanakako 2024 happened at Communication Plaza Kirara Yamanakako on June 9th, 2024. This picturesque location, nestled at the foot of the iconic Mount Fuji, provided a serene and inspiring backdrop for our event, enhancing the overall yoga experience.


Chief guests Mayor of Yamanakako Village Mr. Shoichiro Takamura, Chairman of Yamanakako Tourism Association Mr. Joji Horiuchi, Chairman of Yamanakako Board of Education, Mr. Kimio Hada, Yamanashi Prefecture Tourism, Culture and Sports Department Deputy Director Sports Strategy Promotion Supervisor Mr. Takeyasu Sanada, and NPO Veg Project Representative Director Ms. Haruko Kawano were so happy to have inaugurated the grand event.



After the opening ceremony, the professional yoga teachers took a 45 minute session common yoga protocol session, led by Luly Sensei. The 1 hour Pranayama special yoga session led by Ashutosh Singh and Yumi, Director and Sales leader of PJF, shed light on the key elements of Pranayama, especially the "Silver Triangle" consisting of Kapalbhati, Anulom vilom, and Bhramri.


Around 200 people attended this event and PJF has plans to conduct this event in upcoming years as well.




International Day of Yoga 2024 Event: Yoga at Parliament June 11th

The next event happened at the Parliamentary League for Promotion of Yoga. Ambassador of India H.E Mr Sibi George released ney designed T-Shirts to commemorate the day. Ashutosh Sensei, a staunch advocate of Yoga, supported the practice of Yoga asana led by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, a Yoga teacher from the Embassy of India, Tokyo, Japan, adding to the success of the event. We were also honoured to have the participation of Japanese Model Ms. Shiho Yano and Miss World Japan 2023 Mr. Maya Nigeshi, whose presence added a special touch to the event.




International Day of Yoga 2024 at Koto Ku June 16

IDY's next event was conducted at Koto-Ku, Tokyo. The success of this event was a remarkable achievement, a testament to the power of collaboration. Patanjali Japan Foundation, the Embassy of India, 一般社団法人Buzz Cre, and Koto-Ku Sports Foundation united their efforts to organize this event, continuing the tradition of the International Day of Yoga event in Tokyo that began in 2022. This collective effort not only showcased the universal appeal of Yoga and wellness but also made each of us a part of this significant accomplishment.



The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Kaname Yoshida Koto-Ku Ward, a councilor who has been instrumental in promoting wellness initiatives in Koto-Ku. His vision of making KotoKu a wellness town resonates with the ikigai (personal goal) of Ashutosh Sensei, who aims to combat stress, depression, and suicide in Japanese society through the power of routine with a traditional approach of Yoga and Ayurveda.



International Day of Yoga at Tsukiji, Honwanji Temple June 21st

IDY's next event was hosted at Hongwanji temple, Tokyo. More than 1500 people participated in it. Undeterred by the heavy rain, the event was successfully conducted, with all the yogis demonstrating their dedication by practicing yogasana with their umbrellas. As a token of appreciation, International Day of Yoga T-Shirts were distributed to all the participants before the yoga practice. A light meal, including mangos and sweet lassi, was thoughtfully arranged and distributed after the practice, providing a refreshing end to the event.




International Day of Yoga 2024 at Nagoya June 22

The final event of International Day of Yoga 2024 was hosted at Nagoya. Chief Guests, Mr. Choudhury Rudra Charan Mohanty, Environment Programme Coordinator, UNCRD-DSDG/UN DESA, and Mr. Tomio Isogai, Advisor in Indo-Japanese Relations, made the final event a memorable day.



In all the events, PJF handed a 'Routine Card' to all attendees who can avail free yoga classes for 3 months. In the final event, PJF also introduced our 1 year yoga challenge, starting from 31st July 2024 to May 31st 2025, where the person who performs yoga for the maximum number of days will be awarded on the next International Day of Yoga 2025.



Conclusion:

PJF and other organizations' yoga experts conducted the Common Yoga Protocol at every event, which included a live performance of Bharat's traditional music. PJF also conducted pranayama special yoga sessions with traditional music and dance performances. This fusion of culture and tradition made this event unique from others.


The main goal of PJF is to make yoga a daily routine in Japanese people’s lives and they strongly believe that yoga has the power to transform one’s lives for the greater good. Ashutosh Sensei strongly believes that yoga can relieve people from stress and make Japan, a suicide free country.


Looking ahead, PJF's one-year yoga challenge, starting July 31st, 2024, aims to make yoga a daily habit in Japan. We hope you join in on this yogic journey!
